5/26/21 - Once Elijah had announced God's judgement upon Israel to Ahab, God hides him by the brook Cherith. There he would drink water from the brook and receive bread from a most unlikely source, the ravens. The great prophet is now dependent upon ravens and a brook for sustenance by the command of God.

Feasts of the Old Testament (11) - Feast of Tabernacles

5/12/21 - The Feast of Tabernacles consisted of Israel dwelling in booths for 7 days, remembering God's provision for them in the wilderness. In this we can see a few pictures of New Testament truths. First, the great price Christ payed for us, being tabernacled with us in the flesh for the suffering of death. Second, the temporary nature of the sufferings of this life for those trusting in Christ, and finally, God dwelling with man in the body through the Holy Spirit.

5/5/21 - The scapegoat is led away into the wilderness bearing all the sin of Israel on his head. There he is released and never seen again, thereby separating Israel from all their sins. Thank God for our scapegoat and fit man, Jesus Christ, who perfectly completed God's plan for redemption and bore our sins to the cross.

4/28/21 - After Aaron had made atonement for his sins, the two goats were to be brought before God. One was slain for the appeasement of God's wrath, and the other released into the wilderness bearing the sins of the people. We see Christ our Savior, both bearing our transgressions to the cross, and giving His life that our sins could be eternally removed from us.

It was a day of great fear and carefulness for the man tasked with going before God. Often the blowing of trumpets is associated with the last trumpet at the second advent of Christ, but there is a better interpretation which fits our lives today. The gospel sounds out in these last days, calling attention to our sin and pointing us toward God's ultimate means of atonement, Christ Jesus.
